Our history :
In the summer of 2010, Mrs. Lisa de Mercado-Crisp, came up with the idea to open a language institute in the Cayman Islands in order to meet the language needs of students, organizations and the general population of the Cayman Islands. There were no language schools on the island and limited language services available hence she decided that the school was a necessity in these islands.
In collaboration with her brother, Mark de Mercado, husband, Graham Crisp, and the support of the Agar family, Modern Language Institute & Tutoring Services became real. Mrs. de Mercado-Crisp contacted Sonia Bush, Attorney at Law in December 2011 and soon after she started the process of incorporation. On February 11, 2011, Modern Language Institute & Tutoring Services was established. It was not until April 1, 2011 that our doors were open to the public.
Modern Language Institute & Tutoring Services Ltd, was first located at Jetik Building at 12 Walkers Road, Grand Cayman., originally operating out of Unit 7. As the language demands grew, we acquired Unit 6 and set up a language laboratory with 12 computers purchased from St. Ignatius Catholic School.
On March 16, 2020 , after the closure of all educational institutions due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we re-located to 25 Butternut Close in Beach Bay. It was during this critical time that online learning became the new norm. We quickly rose to the occasion and offered e-classes to all our clients.
The institute is open once again and welcomes you on your journey to speak a foreign language! For others, we are happy to assist you with your translation and interpretation needs along with notarization services and other corporate services such as having a document legalized or getting an apostille affixed.

Since our inception, several schools continue to use our services to teach foreign languages instead of hiring their own local teachers or hiring from overseas. The benefits are numerous:- No need to go through the hassle of taking out a work permit and incurring the costs of work permit fees, relocation fees, housing expenses, we come with a tested and approved curriculum, teaching materials, native teachers and above all, we have a vested interest in these islands and the people of the Cayman Islands. By our performance we have demonstrated that! We boast a 100% pass mark!
Over the years Modern Language Institute has offered professional development language courses to corporations large and small. We have come to their place of work to teach and train groups of co-workers and team members. Over the years, we have taught Business Spanish, Business Portuguese, Business English, and Communication courses using a customized program designed especially for their unique needs.
